This is an orchid garden in a village outside Madang. Something I was surprised by was the detail in the gardens in PoM and Madang, including in the villages. The gardens were well manicured and layered with all sorts of tropical plants. The gardens are a place of pride as well as a source of food and income.
A week-old pikinini asleep in a bilum. If peering at this precious parcel won't make you clucky nothing will!
Chief Joel cracking open a coconut for us to feast on!
A typical meal - breakfast, lunch, dinner - taro, sweet potato & spinach. Fish if you're lucky.
As Madang is on the coast fishing boats go out each day. I suspect they are a delicacy though and many families can't afford the luxury. We ate this divine seafood curry at the resort..... needless to say I ate the bowl! (PS I love the presentation... on a slice of bread!)
